The port of Kotka

The Port of Kotka in Finland is a general port with excellent service capacities along with facilities for loading and unloading, as well as intermediate storage of almost and type of goods.

Access control off the blocked zones

Very often the large port areas are open for general traffic. In order to increase the security level and fulfill the latest EU-directives the Port of Kotka has been updated with wireless remote control system. Nowadays penetration to critical zones has been restricted by electrically operating fences. The wireless remote control system has been integrated by a Finnish company called Lukitustekniikka-STY Oy.

Each vehicle operating in the area is equipped with a dedicated control unit. The control unit has a switch panel which is connected to the SATELCODE 8i -transmitter. When ever needed, the driver can send an "OPEN GATE"-signal to the SATELNODE X8S -receiver located at the control center. The logic at the control center takes care of opening/closing of the gates. Doing so the harbour area will be free from any unwanted traffic.

Laden and empty containers are handled by means of the most state-of-the-art technology and equipment. In addition to conventional containers, the terminal handles special containers for dry and liquid goods, including IMO and reefer containers.
