Vaisala

Safe and efficient airport operations

Arturo Merino Benítez International Airport, also known as Santiago International Airport, is Chile’s largest aviation facility and busiest international airport. Vaisala’s automated weather observing system helps pilots make critical decisions with real-time weather reports. SATELLINE-EASy radio modems are used at the weather stations.

For more than 40 years, Vaisala has provided aviation weather and runway management solutions that deliver safety and excellence through high performance, ease of use, and reduced operative costs. Solutions improve safety and operational efficiency for airports, example in Santiago International Airport. The AviMet AWOS (automated weather observing system) helps pilots and other aviation personnel make critical decisions with continuous, real-time reports on airport weather conditions. The data from the equipment on the runway is transmitted to the control tower by SATELLINE-EASy every 3 seconds. Data includes for example wind directions and speed, temperature parameters, visibility and cloud base height.

Reliable stand-alone or backup system

SATEL radios are an economical replacement for cable communication where physical communication is difficult or impossible to install. Long service life, 10 to 15 years, and savings in wiring makes SATEL radios also a sustainable choice. In case a physical communication system used in the airport fails, radio communication can be used as a backup system for flight scheduling, safe landings and take-offs. SATEL radios are favored for being an exceptionally reliable wireless communication system that provides redundancy to the communication.
